Day 2: June 27, 2015
Everyone touched down safely in Casablanca this afternoon after a long flight. We jumped on the bus and drove through the flat, dry land on our way to Marrakech. Our driver and our guide (both called Mohamed!) are in the middle of celebrating a month of Ramadan so at sunset we stopped at a gas station so they could break their fast. It meant we got to watch our first beautiful sunset over the rocks on the horizon as we enjoyed the cool breeze. Such a relief after the hot afternoon!
We arrived in Marrakech after about 3 hours and walked through the medina (the old town) to our riad. The riad is a stunning Moroccan-style villa with rooms around a central courtyard which is open to the sky. It is full of incredible mosaics, an indoor pool and live trees growing in the living room!
We shared a delicious dinner of egg plant dip, meatball and egg stew and a chocolate mousse for dessert.
It's been a long journey to get here so everyone is pretty tired, but we're all excited to begin our Moroccan adventure in the morning!
