Day 6: March 14, 2017
Hello!
The long-waited moment of going to Vimy had finally arrived - a visit to Vimy!
We were received by Canadian students who work at Vimy for a short period. They are trained to be excellent guides and probably know an answer to any question that would cross your mind. So they took us for a guided tour in an underground tunnel and in trenches explaining how the battle had taken place and the tunnel and trenches used.
In the afternoon we had a very long drive to the region of Normandy. On the way there from the very north of France, we passed by the place where the Battle of Somme took place -- Beaumont Hamel. The battlefield has been preserved as Beaumont Hamel Newfoundland Memorial Part. Once again, Canadian students go there to work for a couple of months and do an excellent job receiving visitors.
Before arriving at the hotel, we also stopped in Dieppe where the Dieppe Raid took place but is also known for having another link to Canada -- it was the port from which during the 16th century boats left from Europe to Canada.
Greetings,
Cris
