So we've reached the day, which from Day One, the students had described as the most important portion of the tour: our visit to the Auschwitz concentration camps, Auschwitz I. and Auschwitz-Birkenau, the extermination camp of the Holocaust where more than one million people of Jewish belief were killed – more than one million, just here! Making sure that when we talk about numbers, about the twelve million civilians killed in Nazi concentration camps, half of them having been Jews, and many other minorities like gypsies, Jehowah’s Witnesses, homosexuals or just political opponents, make sure we remember each number was a person, make sure we have learnt from history. It was a silent drive back to Krakow.
