We had an early breakfast and headed to Geneva in rush hour, then drove right along Lac Léman beyond Lausanne and Montreux to visit Château Chillon, a fortified castle right on the lake on a rock. We wandered up and down, visited the dungeons, saw the banqueting hall, and learned how they lived back in the days when threat of invasion and self sufficiency were important. We took lots of photos on the jetty, then headed back along the lake with the mountains above us and had free time in Geneva for lunch and shopping. It was a lovely day and we had lots of time to relax and have a nice meal. Then we did a walking tour of old Geneva, climbing the steep slope up to the Protestant Cathedral of St Peter, then saw the original Red Cross building, the old market square, then took the steep Passage des Dégrés des Poules from 1554 down to the old bookshop, before visiting the wall constructed in 1907 for the 400 years of the Reformation. We carried on down to the water and crossed over to our dinner in a traditional inn with lots of wooden features and checked tablecloths. A very pleasant last day on tour.
