A last Provençal breakfast with brioche and tomato/olive bread on the terrace before heading to Switzerland. We made a morning stop at Aix-en-Provence, the university town known for its many fountains. We visited the food market and bought olives, cherries, cheese and bread for an early lunch. Some of us were tempted by the beautiful hand sewn lavender bags. It was a long drive up through the Rhone Valley, where rosé vineyards, lavender fields and apricot trees then gave way to Alpine mountains and walnut trees. We arrived in Geneva just in time for dinner, where we were served local veal sausages then a refreshing pear sorbet. After a long day travelling, we had a final 30 minute journey back across the border to our hotel, just next to CERN, the European Centre for Nuclear Research. Our driver was very glad to finally get a well deserved break!
