Day 9: April 19, 2019
We had a good night’s sleep and after breakfast, we boarded our coach and went back in to the city centre. We met our local expert, Gillian, and she introduced us to the New Town, which mainly consists of Georgian architecture. We headed out to Holyrood Palace and then we went out and around Arthur’s seat. It was a brilliantly sunny morning and the views over the city were breathtaking.
We drove back in to the centre and left the coach, to continue on foot. We went in to Greyfriar’s church yard, various grave stones, whose names, J K Rowling ‘borrowed’ for character’s in her Harry Potter novels. We then walked up to Edinburgh castle, for our visit to the ancient castle.
After our visit, we went for lunch. Then some went to ascend Arthur’s seat, in the warm spring sunshine. Others visited the Scottish Museum. We met up for dinner and then we went for a ghost tour in the Old Town, plus a visit to the city’s vaults.
Tomorrow we are homeward bound.
