London, the Countryside & Edinburgh

April 11, 2019  -  April 20, 2019

We were up early, had a good breakfast, loaded our luggage and headed out of London in to the English countryside. We travelled to the west and it was a brilliant sunny Sunday morning. We arrived at Stonehenge, in good time. We grabbed our audio guides and were soon standing looking at the 5000 year old structure. It is incredible to imagine how they managed to get the huge stones to the site, never mind, setting them in place. We then drove through the Wiltshire countryside and arrived at Lacock, with its stunning Abbey and the picturesque village. We had time to relax and walk around the grounds. The Abbey was seen in some of the Harry Potter films and the village has been used as a setting for many period films and TV shows. After our visit, we drove to the old market town of Chippenham, with it’s Buttercross, where milk, butter and eggs were sold. Chippenham also had a famous cattle market. We then went to our hotel. Tomorrow we visit the Spa town of Bath and the ancient University city of Oxford.
