Day 6: June 16, 2018
Mmmm, it was so nice to have a slightly more relaxing start to this morning.
We left a little later today, because our first activity for the day was at 10 a.m. at the Met - the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ms. Allgaier and Ms. Townsend had prepared a scavenger hunt of sorts for the students to help them explore and discover various areas of the museum, that included taking pictures as evidence of their accomplishments, with awards presented at the end.
Ms. Allgaier had been working on finding discounted tickets to attend a second production, and she was successful for "Hello, Dolly!", so after our visit to the Met, some of the students - along with some of the chaperones - left to get lunch down in the Times Square area, while the rest of the group grabbed lunch from the food trucks and ate on the steps of the Met.
From all reports, the group who attended "Hello, Dolly!" had an incredible time. It included the amazing Bernadette Peters with the remarkable Victor Gerber. Understandably, it was a memorable performance.
The majority of the group spent the afternoon taking a walk through Central Park, including what was orignally known as the "Central Park Zoo", but now called the Central Park Wildlife Center. Then, down 5th Avenue and enjoying going into the upscale stores located there. Like, Abercrombie & Fitch, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hollister, and Forever 21 (not that ALL of them were upscale!).
The two groups ended up meeting back up again in Times Square and we all had dinner at Schnipper's, a locally known eatery, loved particularly for their mac'n'cheese, as well as burgers and chili.
Since we had arrived so late on Thursday night, we didn't have the chance to go to the Empire State Building on that first night. Today, we had some time after dinner, so that's what we did! We went up to the 86th floor and experienced the view from the "top". Wow! it was a beautiful night and the view was incredible! And crowded! Everyone else decided it would be a great night to see it as well! But what a beautiful sight it was!
Time for bed! Back to the hotel!
