Day 2: June 12, 2018
The Washington Capitols won the Stanley Cup! Yippee! Hooray!
At the same time, this meant a parade was scheduled for today. So, to be sure this wasn't going to affect our plans, we started out our day very early. From what we heard, over 100,000 people attended.
We began our day with the our visit to the Supreme Court. We saw the museum exhibit to the beginnings of the Court and we had the chance to view the actual court. It was much smaller than we'd anticipated.
From there we went to the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world. We saw the collection Congress bought from Thomas Jefferson to replace the original, so Jefferson's own, personal books. Also, we got the chance to view the famous Reading Room along with admiring the beauty in paintings, sculpture, and architecture created by American artiists in "the most beautiful building in Washington, D.C.".
Since we were on Capitol Hill, we finished up with the whole reason for being there: our tour of the United States Capitol Building. Our guide was wonderful and gave us all sorts of information about the building and its history. We were given a true sense of our nation's past and the pride behind it.
Afterwards, we were picked up by our driver, David, for a to visit the Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Martin Luther King Memorials, then we were picked up again for a one last chance to explore the Air & Space Museum and its exhibits before heading over to dinner, where we enjoyed chicken, meatballs and all plenty of other good fare.
After dinner, we were scheduled for a ghost tour. Since it was right in the same area as the White House, we visited there ahead of time and took our pictures of the President's House, then it was of to our tour.
Elizabeth, our guide, was great at telling us stories about past residents of the area and how they may still be around the area.
By now, it was time to head back to the hotel. Not EVERYone has adjusted to the time change, yet!
