Today in the morning we left Jesolo and we drove to Milan, the economic capital and the wealthiest city in Italy. It has been recognized as one of the world's four fashion capitals. It is also famous for the 'panettone', a delicious Christmas cake (candied orange, citron, and lemon zest, raisins). The Cathedral of Milan took nearly six centuries to complete from 1386, and the final details were completed in 1965. It is the largest church in the Italian Republic. It has 135 spires and is decorated with 3.400 statues. So grand, so solemn, so vast! But at the same time so graceful! The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a major landmark of Milan. Housed within a four-story double arcade was built between 1865 and 1877; nowadays is a shopping arcade and a meeting point for locals. Today, Saturday, was really crowded. Theatre at the Scala is the historic opera house and was inaugurated in 1778. Most of greatest operatic artists, and many of the best opera singers from around the world have appeared at La Scala. In front of this opera house there is the monument of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) who worked in this town for a long time. In Milan we had time to stroll around and for our last shopping. On the way back to our bus we had the chance to admire the Castle, a medieval fortification, built in the 15th century on the ruins of an earlier fortification. It was one of the largest citadels in Europe. Today, the complex is home to no less than six important museums. It is really an imposing red-brick castle with a magnificent square keep at the centre of the façade, which serves as a monumental entrance. Afterwards we went to our hotel where we had a delicious meal.
