Day 2: April 2, 2013
DAY TWO. Cold and windy New York City.
The wonderful folks from Cheraw braved the weather and sailed out on a ferry into the Upper Bay of the Atlantic Ocean and past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. During the the hour-long cruise we saw the beautiful skyline of NYC and passed under the Brooklyn Bridge, returning to Battery Park.
After a trip to rub the Wall Street bull the group walked briskly to where George Washington took the oath of office in 1789, near where the NYSE is now.
At the 9/11 Memorial we remembered the attacks on the World Trade Center and viewed the reflecting pools and the new Freedom Tower that has risen 1776 feet near the old towers.
We ate in Greenwich Village and then shopped in SoHo and Chinatown.
The students enjoyed the ride on the subway up to Times Square, a bright jewel in NYC the city that never sleeps.
But the day wasn't over : the group attended and enjoyed the Broadway musical "Matilda."
