Hello group!! We embarked on our adventure in Barcelona this morning with our Kansas and Alaska groups, after I picked them up from the airport and left the luggages at the hotel. Unfortunately our third group is coming tomorrow because their flight was cancelled. See you soon guys!! We hopped on a train to the city center, and for some of our students, it was their very first time experiencing how it is to travel by train. It's always special to witness those moments of discovery and excitement! The first thing that we saw when we arrived to the city was the Ciutadella Park with the Catalan Parliament and the incredible Neptune Fountain. Also, we had a good time getting to know each other in the Ciutadella Park with some games and activities. After that we went to see The Triumphal Arch, very impressive. It was the entry gate to the International Exposition of 1888. We also visited 'The Born Market', it is a historic market known for its cultural and historical significance. Originally constructed in the 19th century, it was the first large- scale cast-iron building to be erected in Barcelona. Nowadays is a cultural centre where you can learn about the history of Barcelona particularly focusing on the events of 1714 when the city fell during the War of Spanish Succession. At that time, we were more than ready for lunch. We wen to the famous Boqueria Market to enjoy its amazing variety of food. With our energies recharged the students had the spirit to do a scavenger hunt!! We discovered the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla, the Cathedral and even a Roman Temple, The Temple of Augustus. Finally, we walked to see the Mediterranean Sea and to have dinner, we ate a very typical Spanish dish 'PAELLA'. We'll keep you updated!
