Day 6: June 6, 2024
The coach left early from the Campanile hotel in Bradford as the group headed north through rural Yorkshire bound for Scotland. After a brief rest stop we arrived in Alnwick which would serve as a lunch stop also. The small town is home to Alnwick Castle, historic home to the Dukes of Northumberland. The vibrant town also had a local market taking place. Then it was back on the coach bound for the border. Shortly after Berwick-upon-Tweed we crossed into Scotland and then onto the capital, Edinburgh. We arrived in good time and after a short orientation, the group had a chance to explore the Royal Mile around The Hub church. Cobbled streets thronged with visitors to Edinburgh and the sound of a nearby bagpiper filled the air. Dinner was taken at a nearby pub, the Caley Sample room, a traditional dish of ‘sausage & mashed potato’. After dinner it was on to the group hotel somewhat distantly located at Glasgow Airport, due to a lack of accommodation in Edinburgh!
