It was another earlyish start as the group were headed on a full day excursion to Stonehenge and Bath to the west of London. The coach was slightly late arriving due to very heavy traffic and the traffic continued with the group onboard until we cleared London itself and started to drive through greener field surroundings heading west to Stonehenge. The site of Stoneheng3 is f huge historical significance dating back four thousand years and intrinsically linked to the pagan beliefs and seasonal changes of the equinoxes and their subsequent effect on the population at that time. The stones that still stand at Stonehenge are a very meaningful reminder of our pre-history and also that a lot of archaeology still lies beneath the ground! We then drove further on to Bath through lush green countryside. Bath was first founded by the Romans during their occupation two thousand years ago. The natural springs of the area were the key reason for the settlement of Bath, known as Aquae Sulis. Nowadays Bath is a very attractive town with much heralded architecture and links to the author, Jane Austen. We then travelled back to London with some of the group heading to see shows such as Hamilton and Wicked, whilst the rest of the group had a curry dinner in central London before heading back to the hotel via the underground at Warren Street and overground train from Victoria railway station.
