Day 10: June 10, 2024
The group set off early from The Richmond Arms in Tomintoul where the group had stayed for two nights, and headed for Fort William via Loch Laggan. The journey went through more idyllic Scottish landscapes before arriving mid-morning on the west coast of Scotland in Fort William. Nestled under Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK (4500ft), Fort William was a good stopping point to stretch legs, get some fresh air and find lunch supplies for the onward journey! After the break we drove further along Loch Linnhe and through Ballachulish to the start of Glencoe. The glen is very impressive with sheer-sided mountains and fierce-looking ridges and is infamous for a clan massacre in 1692 during the time of the Jacobite rebellions. Then it was across Rannoch Moor, one of Scotland’s greatest wilderness areas. The road was then heading towards the city of Glasgow via beautiful Loch Lomond, the largest of all the. lochs in Scotland. After leaving the beautiful and verdant Highland scenery the coach stopped in the centre of the city of Glasgow for a short time to explore. The city was once of the most important cities in the British empire with a long heritage in transatlantic trade. The wraith of that era still echoes in many fine architectural buildings in Merchant City, George Square and Buchanan Street. The final journey of the day was to the group accommodation in Paisley, near to Glasgow Airport and dinner in a nearby restaurant. Tomorrow the group will be flying home!
