D-Day London & France

July 10, 2023  -  July 19, 2023

Busy day visiting WWII D Day landing sites. First up Arromanches, the viewing platform overlooking Mulberry Harbour. Then the D Day Museum in the British Sector at Sword Beach. The Canadian Sector at Juno Beach was our second visit, with a guided tour of the German bunker, part of the Atlantic Wall defensive system, followed by lunch in Courseulles-sur-Mer fishing harbour. We stopped at the Canadian CWGC Cemetery Bény-sur-Mer to pay our respects before heading to the Merville Battery complex, with more bunker visits. We finished our day by driving over Pegasus Bridge then had supper in Caen, a very tasty tartiflette made with Normandy cheeses.
