Our first adventure today involved scaling Mont St Michel, rising more than 300m above the English Channel. A similar number of steps stood between us and the impressive Abbey, as we wended our way along the steep, winding cobbled streets. The views from the Abbey, and beyond, were incredible, and the high winds and rain that we faced as we walked the access road to the island only added to the dramatic atmosphere. While we were there, the clouds cleared, and the sunshine totally transformed the appearance of the island, enabling us to preserve our memories in the photos we took. We then headed back along the coast, to St Malo, for a scavenger hunt around the Old Town’s walls. Blessed with more sunshine, we found a statue of Jacques Cartier and, later, his tomb within the magnificent Cathedral. We had a ride on a Carousel, and bought some souvenirs (and ice cream!) before sampling traditional savoury galettes (with ham and cheese inside), and their sweet alternative: crêpes, slathered with chocolate spread! A memorable day, indeed!
