Day 18: July 4, 2024
Today we said goodbye to Liviu, our bus driver for the last 10 days. He dropped us off at our hotel in Paris, where Mrs. Haas was waiting to greet us! We are so happy she’s able to rejoin our trip.
After leaving our suitcases (and saying our proper “bonjours” to Mrs. Haas!) we took the metro over to La Galleries Lafayette where he had time for lunch and shopping. The location of this shopping centre chain is really cool as the interior has a remarkable ceiling and a rooftop patio to get our first glance on the beautiful skyline of Paris. During free time, some of us went over to Fragonard for a guided tour of a century old perfumery (sold only here in France!) We’re slowly but surely on our way to being “Parisien”.
In the evening, we took the metro over to the Latin quarter where we tried beef bourguignon — a classic French beef stew braised in red wine, often red Burgundy, and beef stock. We can’t forget about crepes for dessert!
We then had some time to explore the neighbourhood before jumping back on the metro to the hotel.
