Day 6: June 22, 2024
We met our driver this morning (Viorel) who will be with us for the next few days, along with the coach bus we’ll call our mobile home for 13 days!
Our first stop was Cologne where we had the opportunity to see the amazing Cathedral. It was built over a period of 600 years and today it possesses the largest facade in the world. During the WWII the cathedral was destroyed in one night, painfully reconstructed to its present form and it’s now one of the UNESCO World Heritage monuments. We had a little bit of time to grab something to eat before we headed back on the coach on our way to Heidelberg.
🏰We took the funicular up the hill to visit first the castle: highlights were amazing views of the city and the world’s largest barrel! This barrel is so big that it can hold 58,000 gallons and has a dance floor on top! We took the cable car back down the city and had some time to explore the charming streets of Heidelberg (and the sun made it’s appearance!)
We then drove to the hotel and had a delicious German meat and potatoes dinner. It’s so peaceful here as we’re right by a stream and surrounded by trees.
We still have a few days in Germany — gute nacht!
