Day 5
Florentine Finds and Tuscan Delights
Buongiorno from Florence! Today, we unveiled the magic of Florence, a city overflowing with art, history, and that unmistakable Medici charm.
Our day began with a stroll along the banks of the Arno River, the glistening water leading us towards the majestic Piazza della Signoria. Here, we met our guide, whose knowledge left us breathless! She unraveled the stories behind the piazza's iconic landmarks, bringing history to life.
Next, we crossed the Ponte Vecchio, a bridge lined with glittering jewelry shops – a true Florentine treasure. Then at Leonardo’s Leather shop we delved deeper into Tuscany's renowned leather industry, picking up some special souvenirs.
Our group then split up for an afternoon of exploration. Some art enthusiasts embarked on a journey through the Uffizi Gallery, marveling at its incredible collection of Renaissance masterpieces.
Meanwhile, the "sandwich squad" ventured to Siena, where they enjoyed delicious Florentine sandwiches under the shade of picturesque trees. Here, they encountered a charming guide who wouldn't be out of place in Downton Abbey! Siena's romantic views unfolded before them, the Campo (piazza) buzzing with activity as it prepared for the Palio horse race.
Feeling like we'd stepped straight out of "Under the Tuscan Sun," we all reconvened in Piazza della Signoria, sharing stories of our adventures. To cap off the day, we indulged in a hearty Tuscan pork stew with potatoes, savoring the flavors under the Florentine sky.
