Day 12: June 14, 2019
Today was a very special day, we had two very cool things to do and I was very exited for the group.
At 8:30 we met our local guide Fabio and together we went to the Vatican museum.
Not only the Vatican itself was stunning but also Fabio’s explanations. He gave us the facts with a lot of enthusiasm and that made the whole tour very enjoyable.
We visited the Sistine chapel and to think that all those famous artists were actually there, painting the ceiling and the walls, was pretty amazing!
We went inside St Pietro and wandered around to take some really cool pictures, its incredible!
After that, we had our lunch around the area and then we took the coach to go to the other side of the city.
Fabio showed us the Roman Foro. The Foro is a rectangular square surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city.
For centuries the Forum was the center of day-to-day life in Rome, the site of triumphal processions and elections, the venue for public speeches, criminal trials, and gladiatorial matches.
It was very interesting but was was coming was even more amazing, the colosseum!
The Colosseum’s construction began in AD72 and it could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, having an average audience of some 65,000 people. It was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on classical mythology.
Again, when you see it standing there it’s amazing to think that all this used to happen here!
After we said goodbye to Fabio we went to Trastevere where we had some free time and went for dinner.
We had penne pasta with pesto, zucchini omelette and tiramisu! Everyone is loving the Italian food.
We are now in the hotel, I guess everyone is packing and getting for more!!
