Day 6: April 20, 2023
After the overnight at the Campanile in Bradford, we packed up one more and headed north by coach. The traffic thinned out a bit as we took the motorway towards Newcastle. After a stop at the motorway services at Washington we travelled inland through the idyllic countryside of Northumberland with beautiful green landscapes and sheep in the fields! Once again the weather was wonderful! Eventually we reached the English-Scottish and whilst taking a few photographs, the group were serenaded by the glorious sounds of a bagpipe. From the border it was just over an hour to the capital, Edinburgh, where we were able to have a quick walk through the attractive square of Grassmarket and briefly through Greyfriars Churchyard, home to graves, stories and a memorial to Greyfriars Bobby. Bobby was a Skye terrier that sat by his master’s grave for over a decade after his master died and is remembered very affectionately. Dinner was a coach ride away at the Toby Carvery before transferring to the Moxy Hotel at Edinburgh Airport, where the group would be overnighting the next couple of nights!
