We had an early start to transfer into Central London to catch the northbound train from King’s Cross to York. Despite reasonable traffic we made the connection and the group settled in for the two-hour journey north through green and rolling countryside and occasional towns to the historic city of York. The city walls of Yorkwhich date back to the 13th century give a real sense of how important the city was during medieval times, and the group was able to walk along some sections of the wall. With Roman and Viking history also very importan5 the group were able to wander the city streets and absorb the wonderful atmosphere of the city in good weather. There was a climb up the fortification ofClifford’s Tower and some made it to the National Railway Museum. York Minster, the large gothic cathedral that dominates central York, was unfortunately closed due to filming! After the visit we transferred through heavy traffic to the Campanile Hotel for dinner and accommodation.
