Day 7: April 21, 2023
Once ag@in the group were treated to excellent weather for their last full day on tour. We drove into the Georgian new town of Edinburgh to meet up with the city guide, Ross, in Charlotte Square, coincidentally the same square where the Scottish First Minister has their official office. We drove through the New Town hearing stories of Robert Louis Stephenson and ‘daylight robbery’. At Calton Hill we got off the coach and walk up the brief steep ascent to be rewarded with magnificent views of the city of Edinburgh and nearby Arthur’s Seat! Back in the coach we drove past the Palace of Holyrood, the British monarchy’s official residence in Edinburgh and then up to the National Museum of Scotland. After being guided through Greyfriars Churchyard, the group walked to St Giles Cathedral, the Mercat Cross and then up for a visit to the impressive Edinburgh Castle. Then it was free time to explore the extent of the Royal Mile before meeting up for dinner and back to the hotel ahead of return flights the following morning!
