Day 7: June 29, 2024
Today we explored Tuscany further, visiting Florence in the morning for a guided tour. We then went to a leather shop to learn about the history of this craft and we had a chance to buy some handmade leather items and jewellery. It was the first day of the Tour de France cycling race so it was great to see the city preparing for the big day. We had lunch and then some of the group took the bus to Siena for the optional trip, whereas others stayed behind in Florence and visited the Accademia gallery in the afternoon. In Siena, we met our guide for a walking tour and learned about the fascinating history of the city, and we were lucky enough to see a parade which was part of the Palio, a traditional horse race that takes place every year. We then headed back to Florence to meet the others for dinner.
