Day 6: March 28, 2023
Asalamu alaykum! 🇲🇦
We woke up just before sunrise to make our way to the Algeciras Ferry Port. It took only an hour to reach a new continent — but we were still in Spain! Ceuta is one of two Spanish port cities on the northern shore of Africa. Waiting for our arrival was a Moroccan local, Abdul, who gave us a quick Arabic language and history lesson to better understand the places we’d be visiting.
Our guided sightseeing tour with Abdul (and his helper Aziz) included frequent stops in the old town, photoshoots and snacks! Halwa Chebakia, a sweet glazed with honey was a favourite 😍We then stopped for a traditional lunch where we shared a plate of saffron couscous with steamed vegetables and chicken. As we ate, we enjoyed the live music and performances! Feeling very content, we walked over to a Moroccan pharmacy and sampled creams, oils and lip balms — all made with local ingredients to help with any aches and pains! We’ll be sleeping very well tonight! ✨
Meanwhile, the Breckenridge group travelled to the historic town of Ronda. They were awed by its dramatic escarpments and views, and by the deep El Tajo gorge that carries the rio Guadalevín through its centre. It’s also known to be one of the oldest towns in Spain! Such a cool experience to be able to visit the countryside of the Malaga province.
Tomorrow: sun, beach, tan, and repeat! 🏖️
