London, France & Italy

Today we have arrived in Provence and already the group are enjoying the pace of life here compared to that of the capital cities we've come from, London and Paris. We enjoy another nice breakfast at the hotel and then are transferred to Paris' Gare de Lyon, one of the cities railway stations which serves the south of France and even Spain, Switzerland and Italy too. We board the high speed TGV train and in just under three hours, travelling over 300 kilometres per hour we are in Avignon. Avignon is one of the great cultural centres of this region with many museums and churches of note, but these are all dwarfed by the Popes Palace, occupied here by the heads of the catholic church during the 14th century. The group really enjoy wandering this beautiful medieval city and after some time here we go to Nimes. Nimes is home to one of the world's best preserved Roman sites, the Amphitheatre, which despite being 2000 years old is still used for sporting and cultural events today. Some free time after is followed by perhaps the best dinner of the trip so far. Yes, so far the group are loving the south of France!
