Day 10: April 6, 2024
The coach arrived nice and early to pick up the group and drive the two hours west to Stonehenge. The journey took the group out of London but as it was Saturday the roads were fairly quiet. The cityscape was soon replaced by fields and an agricultural landscape, and the weather was mostly dry if blustery. Stonehenge is an ancient site that dates back potentially 5000 years ago and is widely considered to have been both a religious site and also a way to monitor the seasons with regards to the summer and winter equinoxes. Many of the stones used in the construction of the henge were brought from much further afield. After the visit it was back on the coach to head back into London. Some of the group were able to get a tour of Wimbledon, the famous tennis venue whilst others took the tube back into the centre of London for one last walk along Whitehall, past Horseguards Parade, through Trafalgar Square and then some free time in trendy, hip Covent Garden. Dinner was ‘sausage and mashed potato’, a traditional British dish especially in wintertime. The group finished off the ev3ning attending the show Wicked!, nearby to Victoria railway station.
