Day 9: April 5, 2024
It was a nice early start to travel by coach into London for city sightseeing. After picking up the local guide at the Imperial War Museum, we travelled towards London Bridge and then over Tower Bridge and then alighted at St Paul’s Cathedral. Built in the aftermath of the Great Fire of London in 1666, the cathedral was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and sits majestically by the Millenium Bridge over the River Thames. After buying some food supplies for later in the day we drove to Parliament Square so the group could step off the coach to explore Parliament Square, which lies next to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament & Big Ben. Next up was Windsor, about an hour’s drive away. Windsor Castle is the longest occupied royal palace in the world but is just one of many royal residences within Great Britain. The group visited the castle and then had some free time before we headed back into London for dinner. After dinner the whole group went back on the tube to Green Park station to walk the short distance to Buckingham Palace, first occupied by Queen Victoria in the 1830’s. Some of the group headed back to the hotel whilst a sizeable number headed via Harrods in Knightsbridge to Kensington!
