The forecast for the weather today was not great and so it turned out! The group were due to visit St Andrews which lies around 1 1/2hrs to the north-east of Edinburgh in the Kingdom of Fife. St Andrews is home to Scotland’s oldest university which dates back to 1413 and nowadays just under half of the students in town come from overseas. The town is also host to the oldest cathedral in Scotland, albeit in ruins after the reformation of the 16th century, not to mention the ruined castle in which the bishops used to live. Nowadays most people come to St Andrews to play golf, and it is known as the home of golf. There is a tradition of playing golf in St Andrews that dates back hundreds of years, and now these days there are at least six golf courses lined up right next door to each other. The group survived the windswept and wet conditions to make it back on the coach! Dinner in the evening was at the Torphichen Inn, which also played host to a Scottish folklore night. Great food and entertainment, not to mention a bagpiper and the ‘Address to the Haggis’ ensured a great evening, which was only buoyed by the vocal singalong on the coach on the way home to the Moxy Edinburgh Airport Hotel. Tomorrow is an early start to London!
