Day 6: April 2, 2024
The group had a slightly later start before heading in by coach to meet the city guide for Edinburgh. As the weather was a bit damp and visibility was quite restricted by the sea mist (haar) coming in off the coast we stayed on board the coach for most of the sightseeing travelling through Georgian New Town and along via the Palace of Holyrood, where the British monarchs stay when they visit Edinburgh east summer. The coach travelled up the Royal Mile, which stretches between the Palace of Holyrood and Edinburgh Castle. After getting dropped off at Johnston Terrace we then meandered down to St Giles Cathedral and the Mercat Cross. Everyone the; had a small amount of free time before then visiting Edinburgh Castle. The castle sits high above the city and was a major defensive fortification, which now houses the Scottish Crown Jewels. The group had free time after the castle visit to explore the Royal Mile, the closes and wynds which lead off the Royal Mile as well as find some lunch before meeting up once more for a walking tour detailing some of the grisly and ghostly stories of Edinburgh’s past! The weather started to close in and become chilly as we met up to head to dinner later on, at the nearby pub, the Caley Sample Room. After dinner it was back to the hotel for some downtime!
