Day 4: March 31, 2024
The day started off frosty in Tomintoul! After breakfast we drove via backroads along Strathnairn toward Fort Augustus in the Great Glen of Scotland! Enroute we were lucky enough to see some Highland cows who seemed happy to see the group! Known for their ginger/russet colour and their long hair, the Highland cows are one of the most recognisable aspects of the Highlands of Scotland! We carried on further to Gort Augustus for a cruise on Loch Ness, and potentially a siting of the loch’s most famous resident, Nessie, the Loch Ness monster! Lunch was taken in Fort Augustus after the cruise before the coach took the group onto Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands. After a small amount of time to explore we carried on further to Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle on British soil back in 1746. The battle marked the end of the Jacobite rebellions and an end to the Stuart monarchy. Then it was back to the group hotel for dinner and repacking, ahead of travelling to Edinburgh the next day!
