Day 8: June 17, 2022
Viva Sevilla!
Today we found ourselves immersed in the charms of the capital of Andalusia, Sevilla. What a beautiful and romantic city!
Our visit began with a sightseeing tour of the buildings of the 1929 Ibero-American Worlds’ Fair held here, stoping by the famous Plaza de España, the centerpiece of the Spanish Pavillion. All of the plaza is a riot of coloful Moorish style ceramic tiles — very impressive!
From Plaza de España we then proceeded to the Cathedral – where Christopher Columbus is buried! So much history here! We also climbed the Giralda tower of the Cathedral from where you find espectacular panoramic views of the city.
You can easily tell that the Moors where here in Sevilla before it was reconquered by Spanish Catholic King Fernando III of Castilla back in the 13th century by the arabesque influences throughout the magnificent buildings like the Alcazar (that we also visited) – the royal palace built by the Moorish muslim kings and regarded as one of the most beautiful in Spain and an outstanding example of Moorish architecture and featuring beautiful gardens.
After our cultural visit of the city we had some free time to have a cold refreshing drink before heading to our hotel. It’s been another hot day so many of us had a deep in the hotel pool before having dinner.
Tomorrow will be a long travel day to Madrid stopping by Cordoba, so it’s time get some sleep now.
Buenas noches!
