Day 3: June 12, 2022
Hola!
Today we started with a sightseeing tour of Montjuic, from where you can see beautiful panoramic views of Barcelona and the Olympic stadium. We then followed our tour along the famous Paseo de Gracia to then visit the Park Guell, a beautiful park and gardens designed by Gaudi. Perhaps more than anyone or anything else, people associate Gaudi with Barcelona. Much of his work is here. It’s characterized by natural and organic forms infusing his architecture and sculpture. You may have seen the very famous “lizards” and other shapes that are embeded with an array of differing broken ceramic pieces. It’s a motif that he carried through in some of his other famous works as well as has become almost synonymous with Barcelona and instantly recognizable. After Park Guell, we visited the Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s masterpiece. What an imagination! The Sagrada Familia is a church like no other in the world. Simply stunning. It is still under construction - began more than 100 years ago and it is hoped to be finished within the next years.
Once done with the visit of the Sagrada Familia we had some time for lunch and then spent the evening strolling the famous Rambla, a pedestrian street full of shops and kiosks. It was a very peaceful walk. We then went winding the streets that comprise the Gotic quarter where the Barcelona Cathedral is located.
To end the day we went to dinner to a restaurant not far from Plaza de Cataluña, where we had some free time before heading back to our hotel.
Valencia is waiting tomorrow. Hasta mañana!
