Day 8: April 17, 2025
Today our group traveled to Mount Pilatus, a well-known mountain near Lucerne. We started the day by taking gondolas up the mountain. During the first part of the ride, we had clear views of waterfalls and the green slopes below. As we climbed higher, the landscape changed to snow, and the visibility decreased because of the clouds.
At the top, which is about 7,000 feet above sea level, we walked along the Dragon Walk, a trail that circles part of the summit. Even though we couldn’t see very far, it was interesting to experience the snowy conditions. We also listened to someone playing the Alphorn, a traditional Swiss instrument, which added to the atmosphere. For lunch, we ate at the summit before heading back down.
In the afternoon, we went on a walking tour of Lucerne. We visited the Chapel Bridge, saw swans swimming on Lake Lucerne, and stopped at the Lion Monument. After the tour, we had some free time to explore the city. Many of us bought Swiss Army knives and chocolate as souvenirs, and it was enjoyable to walk through Lucerne’s old town.
We finished the day back at the hotel, where we had dinner and tried rösti, a Swiss potato specialty. It was a fun day in a picturesque town with amazing scenery.
