Day 9: April 3, 2025
After breakfast in the hotel, the group headed into Dublin and picked up our guide, Michael, at Heuston station near the Guinness factory. The first visit of the day was to Trinity College to see the Long Room library and then the Book of Kells, a gospel manuscript that dates back over 1200 years! We drove on through elegant residential districts learning about famous Dublin citizens such as Oscar Wilde. After a short step off the coach at Dublin Castle, we drove over to Phoenix Park, site of the official residence of the President of Ireland, as well as Dublin Zoo, sports pitches and a walled garden!
The group were dropped off by Ha’penny Bridge for a couple of hours free time before re-meeting up to journey the short distance to Glasnevin Cemetery, final resting place for some of Ireland’s most notable historical leaders including Daniel O’Connell, Eamon de Valera and Michael Collins amongst many others! A little bit more free time followed before heading to the Belvedere Hotel to attend the Belvedere Irish Night with traditional music and songs, Irish dancing and even a bit of audience participation! Then swiftly back to the hotel to get a few hours rest before an early start in the morning!
