Insider's Paris

April 13, 2024  -  April 20, 2024

An earlier start to drive out to Versailles. We had a quick look at the landscaped gardens by Le Nôtre and saw the Olympic equestrian event stands in the distance. Then we headed into the palace for our guided tour. We visited the dazzling Hall of Mirrors, saw the King and Queen's bedrooms, huge reception rooms and many, many portraits. After lunch out, we returned to Paris where our wonderful professional guide Janice gave us a fun, fact filled guided tour of the main sights, all from the comfort of our bus driven by the lovely driver Jean-Marc (who had picked us up at the airport on Sunday). A quick pastry break after the tour, then it was free time to shop and wander around the Latin Quarter (albeit in the rain and even hail) before reconvening for dinner of boeuf bourguignon and homemade apple tart. We ended the day with a short walk to see the famous Caveau de la Huchette jazz club (where we chatted to tonight's artist, who encouraged us to come along to listen to some boogie woogie) but we decided to head on home to the hotel as a very early start awaits us tomorrow.
