Day 10: July 2, 2025
Tour Diary – July 2nd, 2025
Literature, Art, and Iconic Madrid
Today was all about exploring the heart and soul of Madrid — through its writers, its art, and its iconic landmarks.
After an early breakfast, we took a calm stroll through the atmospheric Barrio de las Letras, the literary quarter of Madrid. Walking down Calle de las Huertas, students were able to spot engraved quotes from some of Spain and Latin America’s most celebrated authors — from Lope de Vega to Miguel de Cervantes, as well as many beloved poets. It was a poetic start to the day — literally!
Next stop: the Museo Reina Sofía, where we spent the rest of the morning immersed in 20th-century Spanish art. The undeniable highlight was Picasso’s Guernica, which provoked thoughtful reflections and lively conversation among the students.
After some free time for lunch, we reunited with our local guide for a sightseeing tour of Madrid. The bus tour gave us the chance to take in some of the capital’s most iconic monuments:
The impressive Royal Palace,
The vibrant Gran Vía,
The majestic Plaza de Toros (bullring),
The elegant Cibeles Fountain,
… and much more!
To wrap up the day, we enjoyed a warm and hearty dinner in a traditional Madrid brasserie, where students got to try tarta de Santiago, a delicious almond cake from the region of Galicia, commonly served in Madrid restaurants as well.
It was a full and enriching day, and everyone returned to the hotel with their hearts and stomachs full — ready for tomorrow’s new adventures.
Warm regards,
