Day 7: April 25, 2025
Day 7 – Vatican Vibes
This morning we left the peaceful hills of Assisi behind and made our way to the heart of Rome — the Vatican! After arriving, we met up with our local guides outside the Vatican Museums. Unfortunately, one of them had a little accident and had to leave (she’s okay, don’t worry!), but shout-out to Luca who stepped up and made sure the whole group still got a great tour.
We explored the incredible Vatican Museums — from ancient statues to Renaissance masterpieces — and of course, marveled at the Sistine Chapel. After the tour, you had a bit of free time to check out the area, grab a gelato, or do some souvenir hunting.
This is a very unique time to be here, as Pope Francis has just passed away, and the area around the Vatican is absolutely packed. Instead of a quiet, reflective atmosphere, it was buzzing — crowded, busy, and a little chaotic, with people everywhere and streets full of movement. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience to witness history up close (even if it meant weaving through the crowds like pros).
In the evening, we sat down for a delicious dinner (lasagna night!), but the adventure didn’t end there. What should’ve been a quick 3-minute walk to the bus turned into a 40-minute maze of detours and closed streets. Total chaos, but we made it — eventually.
Tomorrow: bring on the Colosseum!
