Day 8 – Rome This morning we left the hotel very early to head to the metro station. We boarded the subway — for some of you, it was your very first time! We got off at the Colosseum, arriving before all the big tourist crowds, giving you a unique opportunity to take amazing photos without the usual crowds. Definitely some great Instagram posts! After that, you met your guides, Annarita and Carla, and began a fascinating tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Once the tour finished, we met up again and had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We lined up along the barricades and waited for the funeral procession of the Pope to pass by. Whether you are religious or not, it was truly a historic moment — something that happens very rarely. Presidents from all around the world were present, and being in Rome at a time like this was absolutely unforgettable. We even made it to the international news! We waved goodbye to Pope Francis as the cortege passed and then regrouped. Next, we made our way to the Trevi Fountain, moving through the massive crowds that have filled Rome these days — including many young people and scouts participating in the Jubilee for Teenagers. At the Trevi Fountain, you had some free time to grab lunch, and afterward, we continued on to Piazza Navona. Our second-to-last stop was the Pantheon, where you had a bit more free time — and of course, another chance to enjoy some delicious gelato. Finally, we headed to dinner, and after dinner, we walked over to the Spanish Steps. You took some final photos there before embarking on our last big adventure of the day: riding the metro twice on the busiest and most intense day in Rome! We eventually made it back to our bus and then to the hotel, where we could finally rest. What an incredible day. Tomorrow, you head back home!
