Today we will visit the LOUVRE MUSEUM, it is a central landmark of the city, and located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement (district or ward) and home to some of the most canonical works of Western art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built in the late 12th to 13th century under Philip II. Remnants of the Medieval Louvre fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Due to urban expansion, the fortress eventually lost its defensive function, and in 1546 Francis I converted it into the primary residence of the French Kings. After that, and some free time, we will go using public transport again, to Montmartre. It is is a large hill in Paris's northern 18th arrondissement. It is 130 m (430 ft) high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank. Montmartre is primarily known for its artistic history, for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit, We have also visited during our walking tour led by Raquel ( tour leader), one of the few wind mills in the area called "la gallette" where the students and families have learned why that wind mill was that important. After that dinner and public transport again for our night cruise on the river seine where all the students and families have enjoyed the city of paris with all the lights ON! Back to the hotel and tomorrow off to the "normandy"!
