Today we left Venice after breakfast and drove to Verona. The bus dropped us off right by the beautiful medieval castle and we crossed the Castelvecchio bridge over the river. Once in the city centre, we saw the Arena, third-largest Roman amphitheatre in the world which gave us a taste of the sights we'll see later this week in Rome. Then we went to Piazza Erbe, the market square, passing by Romeo's house and the tombs of the Scala family who ruled medieval Verona. We had some time for lunch and quite a few people tried the local speciality, horse meat. We then got back on the bus and drove to Florence. On the way into the city we stopped at Piazzale Michelangelo for amazing views over the city where we could already spot some of the sights we'll see tomorrow from above. Then we had pizza for dinner and drove to our hotel to check in.
