Today we spent the whole day in Venice! Despite the grey weather, we had a really good time. We started off early, taking a boat to Murano island which is famous for its glassmakers. We visited a "vetreria," glass factory, and watched a demonstration of two different glassmaking techniques, glass-blowing and sculpting. We wandered therough the showroom and saw the incredible objects made by a variety of different artists, from vases to chandeliers. Everyone had a chance to buy a souvenir and we got back on the boat to go across the lagoon to St Mark's Square. We met our guides who took us on a fascinating tour of the Doge's palace, including the prisons across the bridge of sighs. Then we had some free time, and many people opted for a gondola ride which was a lot of fun! We all met back at the dock ready to get the boat back towards our hotel and arrived just in time for dinner. Tomorrow we continue our journey across northern Italy, towards Verona!
