Day 9: April 25, 2025
Today we began our journey from the Marotel towards Dachau. It was a very moving and emotional morning for all of us, especially for the kids, because for the first time in their lives they had to face, understand, and witness the reality of the Holocaust.
We visited the Dachau concentration camp, the first camp ever built — a model upon which others were based. Walking through the camp and seeing the images and remnants of that cruel history was deeply moving and extremely difficult to take in.
Although the experience was painful and heavy, it was also essential. It reinforced everything we had studied or read in books. Sometimes, words alone aren’t enough to fully grasp the depth of what happened — seeing it firsthand makes a profound difference.
After this intense visit, we moved on to a lighter and more cheerful part of the day, where we slowly began to smile again. We headed to the BMW Center, where we had our lunch break and explored the incredible showroom filled with luxury cars and motorbikes.
In the afternoon, we began our city tour of Munich, including a walking tour through the beautiful city center. We even visited the University of Munich, walking through its main hall and exploring several exhibition areas. It was a wonderful and enriching experience.
We ended our tour in Marienplatz, where we had more historical references, particularly regarding Hitler, the war, and the role Munich played as his first headquarters.
Finally, we allowed everyone some free time for last-minute shopping before gathering for our final dinner in Europe — a perfect way to close this memorable journey.
