First Day in Rome: A Warm Welcome and a Walk Through History Here we go! Today our entire group arrived safely and on time in Rome, welcomed by a gloriously sunny day. The sky was clear, the air was warm—absolutely perfect for our first adventure in the Eternal City. We boarded our two Italian buses and headed straight into the heart of Rome, where we began a walking tour that took us through some of the city’s most iconic and historic sites. Our first stop was the stunning Piazza Navona, built on the site of the ancient Stadium of Domitian. This elegant Baroque square, with its famous Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini, is a masterpiece of Roman architecture and artistry. From there, we made our way to the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved ancient Roman temples, originally dedicated to all the gods and later converted into a church. Its massive dome and open oculus never fail to impress—an incredible engineering feat of the ancient world. Next, we visited the magical Trevi Fountain, a Baroque wonder where tradition says if you toss a coin over your left shoulder with your right hand, you’re destined to return to Rome. The group enjoyed some well-earned free time for lunch nearby and many took the chance to join the crowd at the fountain, make a wish, and snap unforgettable photos. In the afternoon, we walked to the Spanish Steps, the grand staircase of 135 steps (not 114!) connecting Piazza di Spagna to the Trinità dei Monti church above. After exploring the area, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner nearby, filled with delicious Italian flavors and lively conversation. With full hearts (and full stomachs!), we climbed the famous steps, took in the view one last time, and then boarded our buses to head to the hotel for check-in. A perfect start to what promises to be an unforgettable journey through Italy.
