Day 9: July 2, 2024
Today we drove back to Paris in the morning. On the itinerary we should have stopped to visit the Cathedral in Chartres, another World Heritage site, but the teachers decided that the group would rather have more time in Paris, so we drove there directly, only stopping for a comfort break on the way.
We stashed our bags at the hotel, then took the RER train once again into the center of Paris.
This afternoon was free time, and people went to different places. There was an optional trip to a perfume museum with a chance to buy perfume at special prices, and about half of the group chose to do this, with many of them going on the department store Galeries Lafayette, where 3 brave students went on the glass wlakway under the stained glass dome.
We all met again for dinner at a restuarant in Montparnasse. Unfortunately our seats here were outside and it started to rain. The people who were on the tables not under the canopy squished inside, except Mr. Dittus who put up his umbrella and sat in the rain!
It had stopped raining by the time we left the restaurant, which was lucky, because we were taking a cruise on the River Seine. We took the metro and then walked to the cruise which went from the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Although it was cooler, the rain did not come back and we were able to sit out on the top deck to see the sights of Paris along the river banks. Then we were collected by a bus and taken back to our hotel.
