Day 7: May 27, 2025
Last day in Paris. We drove out to Giverny on the edge of Normandy to visit Monet's garden, where he painted his water lilies. Our guide Joseph talked us through the history of Impressionism and Monet's life. Sadly we weren't the only visitors and we couldn't spend much time there, but we did get to see the magnificent gardens he created and where he spent his last days.
Afterwards we headed for Montmartre, starting at the Moulin Rouge, and a very late lunch. Some people ate at the Café des 2 Moulins where Amélie Poulain was filmed. Fiona gave a walking tour of the hidden Montmartre for some people, and we wandered through the gardens, saw Picasso's art workshop, the Moulin de la Galette, the square with St Denis carrying his head, the pink house and the vineyard. We finished with a walk round the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur, and some brave people walked right up to the top.
We had our farewell dinner in the artists' square of Place du Tertre, and then dispersed for a final wander or to return to the hotel to pack.
