Best of Spain

We slept very well last night, after the long journey and the long day after all. So today we didn’t have an early start, which was appreciated. After breakfast, we drove from our hotel to the city center of Bilbao, the provincial capital of Biscaia and stopped to visit the Guggenheim museum, a real jewel of architecture designed by Frank O’ Gery and opened in October 1997. We enjoyed its collection very much. After that we drove to San Sebastian-Donostia, the capital of Gipuzcoa. When we arrived there, we drove around the city, seeing the most interesting and beautiful parts of it; so among other places, we saw the Kursaal, the Convention center where they celebrate in Film Festival of San Sebastian, every September. We also saw its nice City Hall, former casino. We were delighted to see the nice beaches of La Concha and Ondarreta, the hills of Urgull and Igueldo and the small island of Santa Clara. We were dropped off by the Kursaal and crossed the river to reach the old town. Rolando walked us around the old center, seeing the lively atmosphere there, with the so many bars and cafes and restaurants offering the delightful pintxos. Then we had free time to explore the rest of the city at our own pace. We walked along the promenade by the pretty beaches, we also walked along the narrow alleys of the old town to buy some souvernirs. In the late afternoon we got together again and drove back to our hotel and after some time to relax we had our dinner. We had to pack as we had to return to Madrid the following day.
