Day 2: June 17, 2014
We are all finally in Spain!!! We landed in the morning and Rolando, our TD from Explorica met us at the airport and took us to the hotel. We could get our rooms so we settled down and could take a shower and change clothes and were ready to explore Madrid. We were taken to downtown and stopped at the Opera square where we had some free time for lunch. After that, we moved on to the Plaza Mayor, so beautiful and interesting too, with its porticoes and lively bars and restaurants around. After taking a few pictures we went on to Puerta del Sol where we could see the statue to Charles III, an important king of Spain; the monument to El Oso y el Madrono, the headquarter of the government of the community, and the Km 0 of all the radial roads of Spain. After that we walked around for some more time and went to the famous Prado museum where we could enjoy the works by some of the Spanish masters of painting like Velazquez, Goya and Murillo among others. After our time in the Prado, we went to the restaurant with Rolando, and we enjoyed our first dinner in Madrid, Spain, in a very nice restaurant. After dinner we all returned to the hotel, ready to sleep and rest as it had been a very long day. We are all looking forward to tomorrow, to enjoy another day in Spain seeing more of Madrid.
