Royalty and nobility, vast palaces and grand mansions, Old Delhi was once the majestic capital of India and is still filled with the incredible architecture of its former glory days. See the impressive Jama Masjid, built in 1656; it is the largest and best-known mosque in India. Visit the vast Lal Quila (Red Fort) the former residence of the Royal Family and headquarters for the British Army during British occupation. Then, pay your respects to one of the greatest men in Indian History, Mahatma Gandhi, at his memorial the Raj Ghat.

New Delhi serves as the seat of the Indian Government and is characterized by wide tree-lined boulevards and impressive national monuments. Drive down the Rajpath, or Royal Mall, arguably the most important road in all of India, and head to Connaught Place, the largest financial and business district in New Delhi. Visit Humayun’s Tomb, which was the first garden-tomb built in India, and marvel at its massive white marble dome and red sandstone sides. Wander along Janapath Market and browse through hundreds of shops set up along the sidewalk selling inexpensive jewelry, Indian artifacts and pure essential oils and perfumes.

How can you keep a palace cool in the stifling Indian heat before there was electricity or AC? You build one with 953 windows! At least that’s what the builders of Hawa Mahal did in order to keep a constant cooling breeze throughout the palace in the summer months (hence the name, Palace of the Winds). Built of red, pink and white sandstone and in the shape of the crown of Krishna, a Hindu God, the Palace of the Winds is a unique must-see.

Known as the “Pink City”, Jaipur is an impressive pre-modern Indian city known for its wide boulevards and well-planned streets. During your tour pass by the famous Palace of the Winds and the breathtaking Jal Mahal, a “water palace” that sits in the middle of Mansagar Lake. During the hot summer months the lake dries up but during the rainy season the lake fills with water, creating a magical glass-like reflection of the palace and surrounding it with beautiful purple water flowers.

Afternoon visit to Mother Teresa’s Charity home in Agra, it has 48 children who are orphaned or come from poor families who can no longer provide for them; as well as 150 infirmed adults who can no longer care for themselves. The mission is solely reliant on private donations to support their cause.

Details: Taj Mahal visit at dawn
Visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal. Construction began in 1632 in memory of Shah Jahan’s wife who, with her dying breath, requested that he build a mausoleum for her. The Taj (as it is often called) is considered the greatest example of Mughal architecture and its characteristic white dome is recognized world-wide. Sit beside the glass-like reflecting pool directly in front of the mausoleum and take in the surrounding manicured gardens and exotic flowers.

Considered one of the most important forts in India, Agra Fort was once the home to important Mughal rulers. The fort is surrounded by a seventy foot-tall wall with four embellished gates on each side and is representative of both Hindu and Muslim architecture. Although overshadowed by its neighbor, the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is still an impressive and important monument, and is visited by a large number of tourists each year.

    Extending over an area of 360 km square at an altitude of 1336 meters above sea level, Kathmandu is an exotic and fascinating showcase rich culture, art and traditions. The capital, which is the seat political, commercial and cultural development spans 24 Kilometres from east to west and 19 kilometres from north to south is. It is surrounded by green hills terrace cultivation, enamelled by rooftops red houses. She has many ethnic groups including the Newar which gives him its cultural specific. A legend says that the valley was once under water until the Bodhisattva Manuscript or planted his sword in the middle of the lake. The valley dried up and the first inhabitants settled.

    Kathmandu's central meeting area, Durbar Square, is a profusion of temples reflecting the different architectural styles dating from the eleventh century. The Kathmandu Durbar Square holds the palaces of the Malla and Shah kings who ruled over the city. Along with these palaces, the square surrounds quadrangles revealing courtyards and temples. It is known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, a name derived from a statue of Hanuman, the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, at the entrance of the palace.

    The area also includes the Royal Palace with its gilded gates and elaborate statues, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The square is alive with a multitude of nationalities, intermingled with stalls displaying a wide variety of Nepalese and Tibetan handicrafts.

    A few steps away from the main square, is the Temple of the Living Goddess, where you may catch a glimpse of the Kumari (worshipped by Nepali Buddhists and Hindus as the manifestation of the goddess Durga), at one of the open windows overlooking the inner courtyard.

    Swayambhunath Stupa is Nepal's most significant centre of Buddhist worship. Dating back from the 5th century, Swayambhunath is also known as the "Monkey Temple" due to the large population of monkeys that make the grounds their home. The temple buildings are set atop a hill and offer an excellent view of Kathmandu and its valley. The Buddhists visit the Stupa for religious reason, but everyone interested in mysticism, tantra, spirituality, ancient sculptures, & fine arts should not miss visiting the site.

    Patan is known as the “City of Crafts” and is a World Heritage site. One of the oldest Royal cities in the valley, admire The Ancient Royal Palace where Malla Kings of Lalitpur resided, as well as the historic square - a marvel of Newa architecture, the Golden Gate, the sky piercing temple of Taleju and the statue of Yogendra Malla, Krishna Mandir, Sati Temple, Hiranya Varna Mahabiar (the golden temple), Mahabouddha with views of old carved wooden windows through the streets, curious shops and Bazaars.

    Enjoy a leisurely two-hour short hike to Changu. Walk along the forested ridge with amazing views of the mountains on your right and picturesque villages on your left where you will eventually reach the historical Changunarayan temple built in the 5th century.

    The pagoda style temple has several masterpieces of 5th and 12th century Nepalese art. According to legends, Changu Narayan temple existed as early as 325 A.D (Licchavi era). This is a ‘world heritage site’ and one of Nepal's richest structures historically as well as artistically. The first epigraphic evidence of Nepalese history was found in the temple premises during the reign of the Licchavi King Mandeva dating back to 464 A.D. shows that Changu had already been established as a sacred site in the 3rd century A.D. It is the earliest inscription known in Nepal.

    Bhaktapur, a World Heritage Site retains much of its medieval charm and way of living. It houses some of the best examples of Nepalese craftsmanship on wood and stone such as the Palace of 55 windows built in 1697, the five-storied temple of Nyatapole, a pagoda style temple, the Dattatreya temple among many others. Considered a living museum one can witness ancient traditions carried out even today in Potters square where the local potters use age-old techniques to make clay utensils. You will have the opportunity to meet the locals who are carving the woods from many generations and taste the Juju Dhau (king curd) and learn the traditional way of making it. Meet with Rajesh and his family who have been in this business for centuries. Here you can have a rare close-up view of Nepal’s master craftsmen giving continuity to their time-honored traditions of art; one can encounter the city’s well-acclaimed artisans who, with their wondrously skilled hands, produce a great variety of handicrafts.
